Pickleball is exploding in popularity across Canada, and nowhere is the momentum stronger than right here in Ottawa. At Rideau Sports Centre, we’ve seen firsthand just how much this fast-paced, social, and accessible sport has captured the hearts of players of all ages and skill levels.
To celebrate the launch of our 12 brand-new outdoor pickleball courts, we hosted a Grand Opening Pickleball Play & Social event on Saturday, June 21, and it was a smash success. With 96 players on court and countless more joining us to enjoy the sunshine, BBQ, music, and high-energy vibes, the day marked an exciting new chapter for pickleball in Ottawa.
A Day of Play, Community, and Celebration
The event brought together players of all levels, from first-timers to seasoned competitors, for an afternoon of friendly games, rotating partners, and lots of laughs. Our incredible coaching team, Doug, Jeff, and Claudio, were on hand to help coordinate play and share tips, ensuring everyone had a great time and felt welcome.
Off the court, the atmosphere was just as lively. Guests soaked up the sun on our beautiful patio, enjoyed delicious BBQ courtesy of The Bridge Public House, and relaxed to the sounds of live music. We also raffled off two premium paddles: a Silent Storm Padel and an OWL Padel, won by a couple of lucky participants.
