Daily Yoga Classes

ABOUT OUR YOGA STUDIO

We have two beautiful indoor yoga studios (hot and regular temperature), and two outdoor yoga studios (Heated Upper Deck and Zen Tent).

***September 2020 please note currently operating in the River room and Upper deck only

RSC Yoga Studio offers daily yoga classes morning, noon and evening for maximum scheduling ease; to help you relax, unwind, stretch and connect with yourself. All levels welcome, please take note of the class description for further information specific to each class. 

Weekly Yoga Classes (ages 16+)

We currently have our classes scheduled indoors, with the option of being outdoors on the heated covered deck, weather permitting. Updated location will be chosen 24hrs before class starts, please take note of our schedule for the most current information.

*Please note participants must give 8 hrs notice to cancel their yoga class, if notice is not given participants must pay for their spot in class.*

We are offering 13 weekly outdoor covered outdoor yoga classes with physical distancing measures in place. Classes are rain or shine, max 15 participants per class (14 registrants + 1 teacher). Please check in at our  “satellite front desk” as building is closed. Are you 55 years or older? Want to relax and to be more in touch with your body and your breath? This gentle yet energizing hatha yoga class is a combination of yoga poses (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayamas) and meditation that will bring balance to the whole body – increased flexibility, coordination, strength and a clear, calm and focused mind. Bring you smile and enthusiasm to experience the natural wisdom of your body.

Anamda has a strong background in holistic health and wellness for families and seniors and extensive training in yoga and meditation, with over 15-years experience as a teacher/trainer for children, teens and families. She is passionate to bring heart-centered yoga to children, families and senior adults. She enjoys bringing creativity and music into her classes for a relaxed and uplifting experience. Her motto is BE HAPPY TODAY!

Bronwyn Steinberg

Power Description
This style of yoga is suitable for those who are seeking an intense session that will raise their heart rate. It is an active practice that emphasizes strength, flexibility and concentration.
In this class, more advanced postures will be offered and inversion options may be given. Sweats guaranteed!

Bronwyn Steinberg
Bronwyn is delighted to join the community at RSC. For years, yoga has helped to keep her healthy, balanced and strong in body, mind and spirit along her challenging journey as a theatre artist. Recognizing the transformative power of yoga in her own life, she completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training with YogaWorks in 2011, and in addition to teaching for over five years at Rama Lotus Yoga Centre, she has given free classes for students and artists, as well as inmates in a federal prison.

Bronwyn’s classes offer strong but accessible sequences, space for intention setting, and a sense of playful exploration. A trained singer, she will often invite students back from savasana with a gentle song. She is grateful for the opportunity to share her practice at RSC and looks forward to building relationships with her students and growing alongside them.

Also a director, actor and playwright, Bronwyn completed her MFA in Theatre at the University of Ottawa in 2010. In one of her original plays, OCCUPY ME (co-created with Sarah Waisvisz), she combines her two passions – yoga and theatre – and audience members can actually join her character (yoga teacher Sarah Lotus Blossom) on the mat.

Energizing Vinyasa

Energizing Vinyasa Description
This Vinyasa flow is a strong yet accessible practice.
Students will be taken through a series of asanas that follow the ashtanga and hatha yoga traditions.
The flow aspect of the class is a moving meditation where the students will be linking movement with breath. There will also be time to hold poses for multiple breathes for deeper exploration and discovery.

Ellen has been teaching since 2007 and specializes in Flow, Power and Yin yoga. She completed a 200-hour Hatha & Power Yoga teacher training at Mountaingoat Yoga, and is working towards her 500-hour level teacher certification to deepen her knowledge and better serve her students. She has also taught fitness classes for over 20 years as a CanFit Pro certified instructor — which might explain her penchant for sneaking strength and core work into her yoga classes. Her teaching style is inspired by 18 years of practice, an appreciation of the mind-body connection and the reward of serving her students.

Gentle Movement for Healing – Trauma Sensitive

Gentle Movement for Healing – Trauma Sensitive Description
Join us for a practice designed to activate your body’s natural healing response during this beginners guided movement and meditation class. Practice tuning into your relaxation response and become more aware of the toxic stress that may be lingering in the body. You can expect introductory breathing techniques, classic yoga asanas (poses) and guided visualization to release negative energy. Beginners are welcome, or the more seasoned yogi’s looking to move energy as this class that invites you to move in a way that feels comfortable to you with room for individual interpretation. An optional invitation is to bring a notebook for journaling.
Anne Jarbouh
Annie completed her 200HR Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at Rama Lotus Yoga Centre and has foundational training in trauma-informed yoga through the Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY).
What makes Annie’s teaching special is her ability to be spiritual yet down-to-earth, teach disciplined alignment yet have a sense of humour – and a way of getting to the heart of yoga so easily.
She encourages students to explore their edges both on and off the mat.  A student above all, Annie is a believer that our total best health is dependent on consistency and practice. In 2012, her recovery from a marking experience while supporting the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan led her to focus on the mind-body-spirit connection more than ever before. Hyperaware and anxious, she began to study mindfulness and develop wellness solutions to invite peace to her turbulent mind and soothe her spirit while maintaining a balanced body. It was during that time that yoga found Annie.

Baby and Me Yoga
Alexis Given

Baby and Me Yoga Description
The parent + baby class offers a space to honour and nurture the body, mind & spirit alongside your new little one, and to share the experience with other families. This class focuses on using gentle movement to help busy parents (re)connect with their bodies, and on developing breath and other practices that can help them navigate parenthood with grace and ease. Parents are invited to engage with their children throughout the class through massage/touch, sound, textures/colours, shared poses and simply enjoying time together. Each class begins and ends with time and space for parents to connect with each other as well.
Parents and babies at all stages are welcome. Parents are encouraged to respond to their own/their children’s needs throughout the class.
Alexis Given
Alexis loves teaching yoga. She has been teaching since 2010 and is a 500 hour certified instructor, teaching all levels hatha, flow and yin classes. Yin Description
Known as the quiet practice, Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis and lowe rspine. Yin postures are held for three to five minutes which gives the body an opportunity to open and release tension from deeper tissues. Yin Yoga is suitable for most levels of students.

Yoga for Grounding

Yoga for Grounding Description
Yoga designed to create a sense of grounding with breathwork to build up resilience and peace.
Each class will start with breath work and then practice yoga asana together. Balancing and core strengthening poses are included with special attention to certain chakras each week.
This class is accessible to all ages with special care for seniors.
Nina Lepage
Nina LePage has been a Manor Park resident since 1988. She is Swedish and the mother of four beautiful children. Nina met her husband Marc in Stockholm and moved to Ottawa in 1988.

Since her mid twenties, Nina has worked in some capacity with health and wellness.

Through walking classes, healthy cooking classes, fitness classes and yoga.

Nina has always loved yoga and loves to teach safe and strong yoga classes. The goal of helping her participants stay well balanced grounded in the day to day life. Finding balance and joy in our everyday life is so important to our well being.

Since moving to Canada Nina has taught yoga, group fitness and Nordic walking to all ages but more recently the focus has been on the +55 age group. Nina teaches workshops in Nordic walking and strength and stability and in healthy cooking for kids. Nina teaches at a couple of local community centres and at the Glocester Senior Centre.

Nina’s lifelong passion is to lead a healthy and well balanced life. Always ready to help friends, family onto the road of better health.

How To Participate

There are 8 ways to participate in yoga at RSC, all levels are welcome:

  1. Take a yoga class (see schedule below): Drop-in Class $18
  2. Purchase a 5-Class Pack for $80 (save $10). Attend classes at your leisure as this pass will not expire!
  3. Purchase a 10-Class Pack for $150 (save $30). Attend classes at your leisure as this pass will not expire!
  4. Purchase a 20-Class Pack for $280. (save $80). Attend classes at your leisure as this pass will not expire!
  5. Buy an Introductory One-Month Unlimited for $55 for the introductory month (must be new to the RSC Yoga Studio). Come to any class, any time. (Includes access to the gym)
  6. Buy a One-Month Unlimited Yoga Pass for $120 if you have taken part in yoga at RSC previously.
  7. Buy an Unlimited Auto-Renew Monthly Pass for $110 if you have taken part in yoga at RSC previously.
  8. Buy a children’s yoga program or drop-in

YOGA OPTIONS AT RSC

RSC YOGA STUDIO CHANGES;

We are so excited to be able to continue to offer yoga to our community. We are, and want to remain a joyful, safe place to play, practice and more. In order to continue to be, we have put many changes into place and we need everyone to do their part. Please read the updated policies and procedures below to keep us all safe. 

Studio Changes

  • Ambassadors are waiting at the front to help guide and direct traffic around our beautiful 4 acre property. 
  • Outdoor paths and walkways are used to limit indoor traffic. 
  • Social distancing guides and hand sanitizer stations are placed around the grounds, please respect distance and wash/sanitize upon entering our buildings.
  • Change rooms and showers are closed, come prepared.
  • Toilets are available for use, please do not use them as a change room.
  • Water stations are closed, bring your bottle filled up.

Class changes

  • Our class sizes have been reduced to allow for physical distancing guides as outlined by the City of Ottawa.
  • Masks are required in all common spaces, according to city policy you are permitted to remove your mask during the yoga class. We ask that you keep your mask on until the class begins. 
  • Teachers will lead the class from a stationary position at the front of class (no hands on adjustments).
  • No mats, blocks, straps or any other equipment will be provided. You may bring your own but teachers will lead classes that do not require equipment. 

Registration and Cancellation Policies

  • Practitioners must pre-register for classes. 
  • All classes are live on our website and Mindbody app. 
  • You can register 7 days in advance for all classes you wish to participate in, registration closes 20 minutes before class.
  • Our cancellation policy will be strictly followed. 
  • Cancellations will only be accepted 8 hours prior to the class start time, late cancellations are subject to a fee.  

Practitioners Responsibilities

  • Come ready for class – our change rooms are currently closed, dress for your class, bring a full water bottle, mat, towel and any props you may want.
  • Follow the floor markers and traffic flow. Respect social distancing at all times and wear a mask in transit.
  • DO NOT visit the studio if you have travelled outside Canada, or to a city/province that is not in phase 3 of re-opening until you have completed 2 full weeks of quarantine.

Check-in

  • You must pre-register for the class. Doors to the studio will open 5-10 minutes before class to allow appropriate cleaning time. 
  • Practitioners are asked to check in at the front desk. 
  • Once checked in you will be asked to follow the path to the outdoor stairway and head directly to the upper level studio. 
  • NO latecomers will be allowed to enter the class. 
  • To exit, we ask that you put your mask on and exit the studio, follow the guides to the EXIT door in front of the massage rooms and leave from the outdoor stairs. 

Teacher and Staff Responsibilities

  • All staff, including teachers at RSC will wear a mask or be separated by a plexiglass barrier.
  • All staff will follow physical distancing guides in place by City and Public Health guidelines.
  • Wash and sanitize their hands frequently, including before entering the yoga room. 
  • All staff are required to do a health screening, including a Covid symptom check and a temperature check when arriving onsite, and asked to stay home if experiencing any symptoms.

 Alternative Ways to Practice

RSC Yoga Studio and the Rideau Sports Centre has been and will continue to take all the precautions possible to keep you safe. If you’re still uncertain about the transition inside we have options. 

Weather permitting the morning classes can be held outside on our heated upper deck. This decision will be made 24hrs before class time and listed on Mindbody.

We are working hard behind the scenes on our online platform where you can register and take quality yoga classes from the comfort of your home. Stay tuned for more information. 

New to Hot 26 & 2?

**Currently our 26 & 2 classes are offered in a warm room environment to follow covid Safety guidelines**

  • Drink water BEFORE coming to class so that you are not dehydrated. Start at least two hours before the class, or the night before.
  • Bring a large water bottle to class.
  • Be sure to bring a large towel (large enough to cover your mat).
  • We recommend you not eat a large meal before the start of class.
