RIDEAU SPORTS CENTRE
SEPTEMBER 27 & 28, 2019
Ottawa, ON – September 10, 2019 – With Canadian tennis at an all-time high after Bianca Andreescu’s monumental win over Serena Williams at the US Open this past weekend, the man who carried the flag for Canada and started this countries winning tradition for others to follow, tennis sensation and former # 1 doubles player in the world, Daniel Nestor is coming to Ottawa on September 27 & 28 to give a doubles instructional clinic as part of DOUBLE UP FOR MENTAL HEATH, a tennis and music event in support of the Royal Ottawa Hospital at the Rideau Sports Centre (1 Donald Street). Nestor will be joined by fellow Canadian Champion and Hall of Famer, Dale Power, Canadian Senior Champion Colin McAlpin, former Arizona State University star Len Gyetko and some of the top tennis pros in the city, where avid tennis players can learn from the best in the business and improve their doubles game.
DOUBLE UP FOR MENTAL HEALTH will also feature a Celebrity Pro-Am with Nestor, Dick Cooper (The Cooper Brothers), Mark Sutcliffe (1310 News) and more, alongside club players who can sign up for one of 14 exclusive spots to play with Daniel Nestor and the pros to see what it’s like to return his infamous serve.
Country/rock icons, The Cooper Brothers will perform a special outdoor concert as part of the event on Friday, September 27th at 9:00pm.
Daniel Nestor made quite a career for himself internationally as a doubles specialist on the ATP Tour, winning a record 12 Grand Slam titles (including the holy grail of tennis the coveted Wimbledon title), as well as an Olympic Gold medal at the 2000 summer Olympics. He was the first doubles player in ATP history to win 1000 matches and won 91 titles throughout his illustrious career. Nestor was the cornerstone of Canada’s David Cup team, where in 1992 as a 19 year old, he defeated the then world #1 ranked player Stefan Edberg in singles play in a match that’s gone done in Canadian tennis history. He is a member of the Order of Canada, the Canadian Tennis Hall of Fame and was honoured with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame for his feats on the tennis court.
Retiring in 2018, Nestor is now giving back to the game he loves, in support of an important cause, and sharing his wealth of knowledge as a professional with recreational tennis players in Ottawa in a ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity.
