December 22, 4:30pm

Dear RSC Clients,

It breaks our hearts to be faced with this province-wide closure, especially when Ottawa was doing so well!  So, for now, we are mandated to close effective December 26th for a period of 28 days.

We’ve closed before, and we’ve re-opened stronger …and we will do that again!

One thing that’s been constant with COVID-19 is change – the need to pivot, pivot, pivot … shift gears up and down …and stay positive. We have the most incredible staff team, who will be welcoming you with open (virtual hug) arms when we re-open.

A bit of logistical business…

  • Fall 2 Programs: The value of all missed classes will be CREDITED to your account.
  • Winter 1 Programs: The start-date & end-date will be delayed until such time as we are permitted to re-open, and the number of sessions will remain the same.
  • Pre-Paid Tennis & Sport Courts: Tennis and Multi-Sport Courts that have been pre-paid (Block Bookings included) will be CREDITED to the account of the person who made the booking.
  • Yoga Monthly Passes: Will be automatically placed on hold until such time as we are permitted to re-open.

A bit of good news …

  • Online Yoga Classes: Starting January 4th we will be restarting our Online Virtual Yoga Classes. Click here for RSC Yoga Studio website!
  • The Bridge Public House: Before we close the restaurant on December 23rd at 9:30pm for the Holiday Season and province-wide shutdown …we have “Frozen Meals @ Home” for you to stock your freezer. We will have a secondary pick-up day on December 30th 12-3pm (for all meals ordered by December 29th at midnight).  With this lockdown you’ll be home more, and may need some creative kitchen help. We’re here for you – come pick up some delicious food (including Braised Beef Shortrib, Lobster Mac & Cheese and so much more to come)! Click here for our Frozen Meals Selection! Also, The Bridge Public House is currently accepting reservations for our popular Private Fire Pits for any dates starting January 24th. Be sure to proactively book your “safe outdoor fun” way to gather when we come out of lockdown!  Click here to book a Private Fire Pit!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support over this challenging 2020 year. It means the world to all of us!

Be well, stay healthy!

The RSC Team

December 21, 4:00pm

Dear Rideau Sports Centre Clients,

Today the Province of Ontario announced a province-wide shutdown as of December 26 at 12:01am.

We are awaiting further clarification from the Province of Ontario and the City of Ottawa in order to fully understand exactly how this shutdown will impact RSC and The Bridge Public House.  Based on the Ottawa Public Health briefing call today, it sounds like Mayor Watson and Vera Etches will be advocating to shorten the lock-down period in Ottawa to 14 days (instead of 28 days).

More information will be collected in the days to come by the RSC Team. We will make a prompt announcement as to how your registrations/bookings will be affected, once we have more complete information.

Thank you for your patience and your continued support.

FRIDAY DECEMBER 11 – Winter Tennis Guidelines

Dear RSC Community

We want to remind everyone of the COVID Traffic Flow Pattern for safely entering/exiting RSC Tennis Dome.  PLEASE remember mandatory mask and distancing rules we have in place for entering and exiting the domes. Safety is a top priority for clients and staff!

Our new Tennis Dome Bell System we have installed is working well. Please remember that when the bell rings, it signals the end of your session, it’s time for you to stop play and begin exiting the Tennis Dome. Remember that the next Tennis Court Bookers cannot enter the Tennis Dome until you’ve exited the Tennis Dome – so speed is crucial when it comes to transitions.

WINTER BOOT TRAY SYSTEM FOR TENNIS DOME

Keeping the Tennis Dome Courts clean has always been a priority for RSC.  Winter weather makes this more complex – in the midst of COVID protocols – to safely and quick enter/exit the Tennis Dome.

In order to prevent water/dirt/slush on the tennis courts, we ask that you follow this process to help keep the courts in the best shape possible (for yourselves and the people after you)!

  1. Remove your boots in the “Tennis Entrance (Boots Off) Tent”  immediately outside the Tennis Dome, and place your boots on your own Tray.
  2. Bring the Tray with your wet boots into the Tennis Dome, and leave your Tray beside your court during your court time.
  3. When leaving the Tennis Dome, bring your Tray to the “Tennis Exit Tent (Boots On) Tent” (the 2nd tent on your way to the clubhouse), change into your boots, and leave your used Tray in the designated location.

*FRIDAY DECEMBER 11 – Yoga Update

  1. We will be going back to using cards for check-ins. The scanner will be kept at the front desk and will face outwards from the desk. Simply scan your card and head to your class, everything else will be automated! If you do not have your card from before, or joined us when we were not using them – please stop by the front desk and see the Customer Service Representative for one.
  2. Our popular 26 & 2 classes are back in the Sun Studio on our lower level with a warm temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit and mirrors.
  3. Our mask policy is still in effect and includes mandatory mask and distancing from entering the building, right up to when you take your spot on your mat. We encourage you to wear them during the class – however it is not mandatory based on the restrictions provided from Ottawa Public Health.
  4. A reminder that class sizes are significantly reduced due to the mandatory 3-metre distance between participants. Due to maximum being either 5 or 6 per class, we highly recommend you pre-register for your class ahead of time to prevent disappointment of not getting into the class.

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 30 – RSC Update

 Dear RSC Community,

We’re excited to announce that our Winter 1 2021 programs are now live on our website, and we are taking registrations. With the new programs, all Adult Tennis Programs are moving to a 4:1 ratio (1 Instructor for every 4 participants). THURSDAY OCTOBER 22 – RSC Update

NOTE FROM RSC’S CEO & FOUNDER, NICKI BRIDGLAND

Dear RSC Community,

This has been a challenging and confusing week for all sport organizations, as we look to find the balance of safe play in “Modified Stage 2” and the well-being of our clients, including their physical and mental health.

Earlier this week we needed to step back, pause and re-assess unclear provincial guidelines to ensure that we were on the right track. Today we have some good news to share with you, following consultations with the Province of Ontario, the Ontario Tennis Association (OTA) and the City of Ottawa. We now have a better understanding of how “Modified Stage 2” applies to RSC activities.

I have been in communication with the City of Ottawa’s Recreation & Culture Department, and have come to understand that private non-City-run sport facilities (such as RSC), are responsible for determining their own interpretation of unclear Provincial regulations. While we often share information and best practices with City facilities, I have been informed that the City only has jurisdiction over their own sport facilities while interpreting unclear provincial guidelines. In the past few days, we have surveyed the Ontario Tennis Association (OTA) and major private tennis clubs in Toronto (who are also in “Modified Stage 2”) regarding their interpretation of the current provincial regulations. Worthy of note, Toronto tennis clubs continue to allow Doubles Tennis Indoors & Outdoors and are offering their regular Indoor Tennis Programs.

Therefore, I have made the following decisions for RSC Tennis & Multi-Sport effective immediately (Thursday, October 22):

Tennis Outdoors:

  • Doubles Tennis is permitted, in addition to Singles Tennis.
  • Everyone MUST maintain 2 meters physical distancing, especially when changing court ends.
  • Masks MUST be worn to/from the court, while preparing to play, and before/after physical activity.
  • Apply hand sanitizer when entering/exiting the Tennis Courts (available at all entry/exits).

Tennis Dome:

  • Doubles Tennis is permitted, in addition to Singles Tennis.
  • Each playing surface (i.e. court) shall be treated as a “room”, and therefore carry with it a maximum of 10 participants plus coaches.
  • Nets between courts MUST be kept closed at all times, to keep each play area distinct, with no player cross-over.
  • Masks MUST be worn to/from the court, while preparing to play, and before/after physical activity.
  • Everyone MUST maintain 2 meters physical distancing, especially when changing court ends.
  • Apply hand sanitizer when entering/exiting the Tennis Courts (available at all entry/exits).
  • Fall 1 Tennis Programs will resume the week of November 2 and complete November 13.
  • Fall 2 Tennis Programs will begin the week of November 16 to December 30 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday = full 7 weeks; Thursday and Friday = 5 weeks, with 2 weeks credit applied to your account).

Multi-Sport Dome:

  • Each playing surface (i.e. court) shall be treated as a “room”, and therefore carry with it a maximum of 10 participants plus coaches per court.
  • Nets between courts MUST be kept closed at all times, to keep each play area distinct, with no player cross-over.
  • Masks MUST be worn to/from the court, while preparing to play, before/after physical activity.
  • ONLY Skills & Drills will be permitted, NO games or scrimmages.
  • Everyone MUST maintain 2 meters physical distancing, even during coaching talks.
  • Apply hand sanitizer when entering/exiting the Tennis Courts (available at all entry/exits).
  • Fall 1 Sport Programs will resume the week of October 26 (except Prezdential Basketball, which resumes immediately).
  • Fall 2 Sport Programs will begin as originally scheduled the week of November 2 and complete as originally scheduled December 18.

For more information about our offerings and COVID-19 protocols, click here. If you have any questions, please reach out to our Front Desk Staff at 613-749-6126.

RSC has kept you safe all Summer, and we look forward to continuing to provide you with a safe play space this Fall!

Warmly,

Nicki Bridgland
CEO & Founder
Rideau Sports Centre

MONDAY OCTOBER 19 – RSC Program Update

Dear RSC Tennis Players, Program Participants, Block Bookers

It is with sadness that we are sending you this update.

Based on further conversation with the City of Ottawa, it has been determined that there needs to be a maximum capacity in the dome of 10 people.

As such, effective today until Friday, November 6th for the remaining 28-day period, we will be pausing all Fall I Programs. Our Fall I Program session will be bumped out by the number of weeks paused (i.e. if we pause for 3 weeks, then the end date will be 3 weeks later). We will resume the Fall I Programs as soon as capacity for the dome increases. Fall II Program start-date will be delayed based on this pause. We will be in touch with new start-dates for Fall II Programs once we have an update to share.

During this time period, effective Tuesday October 20 until Friday November 6th, Singles Tennis ONLY will be permitted at RSC indoors and outdoors. You will not be able to play Doubles Tennis during this window of time.

Since demand for tennis in Ottawa is at the highest level ever, we will be opening up more Tennis Court rental availability. Due to the pausing of our Fall I Tennis Programs, prime-time tennis court slots will now be available…which is great news for tennis players in Ottawa.

Click here to book more tennis court time. As a reminder, Summer 2021 Pass Holders will be able to book 8 days in advance. The general public has 7 days advance booking notice.

We look forward to seeing you as we continue through the “Modified” Stage 2.

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate all these changes.

Our 2020//21 season is one of the most challenging seasons we will face as an organization. High demand mixed with appropriate health and safety measures to compensate for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic will mean attention to detail, proactive measures and dynamic structure which will be adapted based on Provincial guidelines and Ottawa Public Health.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we put this document together and will be working with clients, user groups and staff to ensure standards are maintained and adjusted where appropriate.

General Protocols

  • We ask that anyone showing signs and symptoms of COVID-19 to please stay home.
  • While on RSC property, you are responsible to adhere to OPH’s guidelines of 6 feet physical distancing between yourself and others.
  • Masks are mandatory
    • When in main buildings and general areas
    • While in Tennis and Multi-sport dome (walking to and from your court)

Outdoor/Dome Flow Management

Multi-Sport Dome

Maximum Occupancy: 50 (including staff, volunteers, and sport participants)

Air Circulation: We have had our entire facility tested for air quality and the report shows our domes have 100% fresh air cycled in every 1.5 to 3 hours. The fact that it is fresh air cycled in and not recycled air makes this indoor dome facility better than most buildings.

Cleaning: We are committed to sanitizing the door and other touch-points in the dome at every game rotation.

  • Masks are MANDATORY when in the dome right up to, and immediately following, the completion of your sport. This includes outside the dome in any covered space such as walkways or tents.
  • Masks are strongly encouraged, but not mandatory when taking part in an activity.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be stocked and available at the outer entrance of the dome, as well as the exit before leaving. Sanitizing hands is mandatory for both entering and exiting the dome.
  • We ask that the flow of traffic moves in a counter-clockwise direction to reach your respective court and when exiting the dome.
  • Only one person is permitted per section of the rotating door at a time.
  • We ask that you do not arrive more than 10-minutes before your time (to prevent overcrowding) of play and no less than 2 minutes before your game (to prevent late arrivals)
  • Maintain 6ft distancing when possible when you enter or exit the dome. We ask that you respect this distancing when participating in your activity
  • RSC will be sanitizing touch-points in the dome as well as the door at every game-rotation.
  • Please limit the amount of personal belongings as the change rooms and lockers continue to be closed.
  • Boots and jackets will be stored next to the court you are playing on. Please keep wet boots along the carpeted areas or along the blue tiles.
