From a young age Yanira was naturally attracted to movement in all its forms and how it is used to express ourselves. “Mindful movement” is a new class being offered at RSC based on this premise.
‘We are alive, we move; but unfortunately, we are part of a culture that does not “move our bodies” enough. We tend to experience our lives in a purely functional way. Movements are like words of a vocabulary that we can use to express our ideas. By allowing our bodies to explore new ranges of motion, we increase our capacity to express ourselves in a richer way, thereby reconnecting with the very core of our true nature. This is the amazing power of any mindful practice (dance, yoga, tai chi etc..). There is always a positive outcome from these explorations. When we pay attention to how we move our bodies, we allow ourselves to discover new sensations and emotions. In this way, movement can be considered as a powerful medicine.
We have 360 joints in our body; imagine all the possibilities for movement. Why not explore these movements and through them manifest the essence of our ALIVENESS!
Join Yanira for Mindful Movement on Mondays at 6pm. Every class is created in a safe and non judgmental space. Together we will explore techniques coming from different disciplines such as Yoga and dance that will stimulate your body’s awareness, optimize your mobility, and gently increase your heart rate, leaving you with a feeling of peace and well-being.
Call RSC’s Front Desk to make an appointment 613.749.6126. NEW: No need to pay for your massage in advance!
FREE Live Music EVERY FRIDAY 7:30-10:00pm at The Bridge Public House at RSC.
Local Ottawa musicians, playful & classic food, great company ~ There’s no better way to spend your Friday night!
Friday April 5: The Fake McCoys (UPDATED)
Based in Ottawa Ontario The Fake McCoys bring a relaxed, fun and personal style of musical entertainment. We are an established fully equipped light rock band trio. We play at many of the pubs in and around Ottawa and bring a mix of popular top 40 songs from 50’s to present with a few surprises for good measure. We pride ourselves on really interacting with our audience and creating a memorable and fun evening for everyone. Another thing that makes us different from most bands is our 3 part harmonies and LOW volume which suits us best for pubs where people can still enjoy conversation while listening to music. We use a smaller stage as our drummer(percussionist) does not use a drumkit. A small wood box called a cajon is all he needs.
Friday April 12: Brandon Witters & Mark Weatherbee
Mark and Brandon, AKA,Weatherbee and Witters have been making waves around the Ottawa music scene four years and counting. They have shared their stages with great local talents; Al Wood,Clint Everson,Leona & Steve,Erth Juce and many more. Highlights including Canada’s Inspiration Village Celebrations,The Laff, Westboro Beach, Rainbow, Atomic Rooster and Irene’s. With a mix of Original and old school cover tunes with a distinctive blues twinge and some special guests from their extended music family ,every performance is different and memorable.
Friday April 19: Angele Ramsden (Jazz/Easter Dinner)
Singer/songwriter Angele Desbois is a seasoned performer in various genres (pop, jazz, and funk/soul). She lights up the stage with energy, engaging showmanship, and enchants the audience throughout the show. “Four Letter Word” (pop/rock EP, produced with Toronto producer, Jamie K) set a great launching point for Angele’s music endeavors. “Singularity” was a full length jazz-pop fusion album recorded in accomplished studios from coast to coast. Working collaboratively with producers and studios from Vancouver, Owen Sound, Montreal, and Halifax, this ambitious endeavor earned her a nomination for “Solo Album of the Year” at NOMFA’s gala. She has happily settled in Ottawa performing at the local jazz festivals in the area.

Friday April 26: The Big Train Wreck
The Big Train Wreck is a four piece tight knit group serving up melodic folk with a side of honky tonk blues. Hand clapping, foot stomping fireside favourites from the best song-grafters like Johnny Cash, Neil Young, and John Prine, Plus original songs that keep the rootsy Americana groove rolling.
KJ Thomas – banjolele and vocals
John Cormier – guitar and vocals
